Sheringhamfc 3 Hempnall 2
After a dismal display against Cromer midweek losing
3-0 the Shannocks needed to produce a result and gain some respect back after a performance described as pathetic by the Management.
On saturday again missing key players Price, Jordan and Gorbold, the reserve centre back Andy Hooker, Matt
Jordan and striker Simon Robinson were drafted into the team. Against the league leaders a tough game was expected
and after going a goal down on 9 minutes another poor game was on the cards.
The goals conceded latey have been school
boy lapses and Hempnall goal was in this catergory.
But Sheringham started brightly enough and it was evenly balanced
until from a corner a loose ball which should have been cleared found the net courtesy of Tom Haliwell.
The feeling
of dejavue momentarily entered everyone's head but in the 19th minute a long pass found Olly King who turned his marker and
dispatched the ball for the equaliser.
Sheringham then started to up the pace in search of a lead and Parker, Gleave,
King all had good opportunities. This saw a good period of possession with numerous attacks on the Hempnall goal especially
a thunder blast from Tom Parker that Cudden in goal parried over the bar.
However with just 5 minutes till half time
Hempnall scored an identical goal to their first when from a long throw a Hempnall player was free to shoot past a stranded
Luke Frost.
I don't know what was said in the half time talk but the Shannocks came out like men possessed and as they
upped the tempo the visitors were on the back foot.
This 25 minute period saw a constant barrage on the Hempnall goal
and within 10 minutes a torpedo throw from Matt Amis found King who slotted in for a well deserved equaliser.
With
the Shannocks now dominating Hempnall could not get out of their half and from a Frost kick and one bounce Parker found himself
advancing past a defender and chipped Cudden to put the Shannocks into the lead.
The game then saw Hempnall try and
get back with Franklin prompting his men but Hooker, A Gleave, S Jordan and Amis stood firm as Sheringham should have put
the game beyond doubt.
K Gleave had a power shot hit the under side of the bar and out and Parker hit a volley from
a Timm cross that hit the post.
Hempnall did though push Sheringham in the last 5 minutes but the boys held firm and
with it a well deserved victory against the league leaders.
Well done to the Management and players for their efforts
after their dismal performance mid week. The team showed why they have been a force in recent years and played to instructions
to the letter.
If the players can play like this then a challenge is possible but if not it's going to be a long long
season.
