  • Cromer derby game Tues/27/09/06

Tuesday 17th is derby day at Cabbell Park where the clash of the North Norfolk coast neighbours will perhaps provide a clue on where the Sterry Cup will end up this season. Fox, Timms, Nichols, Winterbone and Hawkins will resume their aquaintance's with their past fellow players, Manager and Club. What will definately add spice to the game is the alledged comments published in the local news surrounding the players who had moved over to Sheringham close season and suggesting they were no part of the clubs new seasons's plan and had to seek a game elsewhere.

Ko is 7.30 at Cabbell Park...don't miss it!

Karl Fox and Paul Timms Sheringhams were the latest signings in this afternoons squad. The second period saw plenty of changes and Bailes took Sheringham into the lead when he beat the off side trap and rounded McNally the visiting keeper. With about 15 minutes left Bailes once again weaved through several challenges and into the penalty area where he was brought down. • Jeckle & Hyde performance Mon/17/04/06

How a team can perform heroics 3 days earlier with 10 men against title chasers Cromer yet give a lacklustre display against bottom of the division Watton was the talk of the supporters on Saturday at Weybourne Road. Mananger Kowalyk could not forgive his charges for a number of reasons. Conceding 5 against a team who had only won 5 all season was unforgivable. The defense albeit without Jordan and Barwell on the bench was all at sea. Also centre back Harwood and goalkeeper Frazer were missing so the able Jimmy Nichols donned the shirt and in was Jimmy who in the first minute let slip a shot to go one behind and with it the tone for the rest of the game. The sharpness and passing from the Shannocks was well below par and the visitors hungry for points in their desperate bid to avoid the drop showed much more ability getting the ball up to Bloomfield the main striker. Sheringham went further behind when again poor basic defending was the culprit. Half time and 2-0 down it still was not out of reach for a quick comeback but Watton ignored the script and stretched the lead to 3-0 within the opening minutes of the second period. Enter Barwell and Knowles and a quick reshuffle saw a little more determination in the Shannocks play. A penalty was awarded when Gleave burst through and Nichols scored his 30th of the season. Soon after Nichols scored his second and the come back was on. Within minutes Gleave scored to take the game to 3-3 and to be honest it looked like the Shannocks would take the game but yet again which has been the downfall of the season, the defence's marking was non existant and Watton scored 2 more to take a very valubal 3 points and with it move out of the bottom 2. After the game Manager Kowalyk wasn't a happy easter bunny and must now consider whether some of his players are good enough and required for next season if Sheringham is to mount a serious challenge for the Sterry Cup or in fact its time for new blood in the hot seat.

  • 10 Men snatch a point at Cromer Wed/13/04/06

Without centre backs Jordan and Barwell it was always going to be a difficult game against title chasers Cromer. The returning Harwood filled the No 5 shirt with Barker resuming the left back berth. Hawkins and Mini Bailes who was pulled out of the starting 11 just before kick off  due to a stomach bug occuppied the bench. Play started well and in the first minute Sheringham could have sneaked a goal when Cromer's Osbourne palmed a shot onto the post. Play was fairly even in the first period although Frazer saved 2 good Cromer chances. 0-0 at half time and in front of a crowd of about 350 it was not the boring spectacle the scoreline suggested. The turning point came in the 56th minute when Cromer's Thompson turned his marker Spruce and was pulled down about 20 yards out. With Harwood covering to the surprise of the crowd and players, Spruce was shown the red card. A reshuffle saw Adams fill in at the back but from the resulting free kick Horton drove the ball into the corner of the net giving Frazer no chance. De ja vue entered the players minds with the corresponding game seeing Frazer sent off also but the players knew that they were capable of snatching a goal. The true character of the players shone and showed grit in denying Cromer any chance of increasing the lead although once again Frazer came to the rescue several times. Both Hawkins and Bailes entered with Sheringham looking for that elusive goal and with about 15 minutes remaining Gleave drove down the left beating his man before drilling the ball hard and low across the goal for Murphy to tap home for his first at the Club. The remaining 15 minutes saw Cromer bombard the Sheringham goal but to no avail as each Shannock fought hard and finally see their reward with a point. Cromer needed all 3 to sustain their title aspirations and maybe with this result the attending Blofield Manager Paddy Murphy felt the more comfortable Manager. This result proves that the Shannocks have the squad to claim a top spot but require more consitancy throughout the season.

  • Curse continues for the Shannocks Mon/11/04/06

The curse of the centre half continues as Jordan and Barwell call off for the big derby game at Cromer tomorrow night. One reason why Sheringham have not continued their drive for a top 3 position this year has been the No 5 shirt. With Michael Spauls long term injury, Andy Gleave leaving for Dereham, Gorham being released by manager kowalyk early season due to a wealth of No 5's at the time, Paul Spruce seeing him miss 13 games due to injury and suspension and now Steve Jordan along with Matty Barham injured at Acle last saturday. "all we have done is shuffle players in the squad to the No 5 shirt and it's cost us games. At the start of the season I would have said any 2 of the 4 we had on the books were perhaps the best in the league but once we lost Gleave, Spauls and Gorham that changed and we have never recovered from it. When we were top of the Prem early season all 3 featured but I've tried to get a quality centre half  but the good ones were already involved in either challenging for a spot in the prem or promotion from Div 1" commented Manager Kowalyk. Tomorrow could see skipper Kristian Gleave star in the No 5 shirt. "In training he been out of this world and looks like a young ferdinand " stated assistant manager Dykie. The good news is ex cambridge utd Stuart Barker and the mercurial David Harwood returns.

  • 2-1 lose, but a better performance Sun/09/04/06

After last weeks dissapointing performance against Lowestoft, the Shannocks visited Acle looking to put on a better display. Against the wind and the slop Acle came at Sheringham and looked sharp with a long ball tactic. A mixture of wayward shooting, good defending and excellent goalkeeping saw the plan of a clean sheet and the 0-0 scoreline at the brake. Sheringham now had the advantage and bombarded the Acle goal and with better finishing should have been 2-0 in the first 10 minuteds. However a cross from Bailes eluded several defenders and Hawkins powered the Shannocks in front. Acle did have sereval chances after that but Frazer kept them at bay. With 10 minutes remaining Big Jordy had to come off with an injury and at that point missing several players had to rearrange the team. From a Spruce goalkick the ball found an Acle's Crane and he made no mistake. With the game into it's 7th minute of added time Acle scored the winner with the whistle being blown immediately from the restart. Disspointing to have gifted them the first goal and with it any chance of a 3rd place finish. The team have come a long way since last season and Manager Kowalyk now knows what types of player is required to maintain a challenge for the title. The team can't feel sorry for themselves as the big derby at Cromer is this Wednesday 7.30ko

  • North Walsham in for Nicho Sat/25/03/06

Struggling neighbours North Walsham Town who after today loss find themselves second from bottom, have made a cheeky approach for the League's leading scorer Darren Nichols. Nicho has however pledged to stay with the Shannocks after scoring his 28th and 29th goal today against Norwich Union. "Its nearly the end of season and with the Cromer game coming up why would I want to leave. Its a good club with a great bunch of lads", commented Nicho. Manager Kowalyk knows how important Nichols has been this season and was glad to hear of his committment to Sheringham FC.

  • Sheringham get back to winning ways Sat/25/03/06

On a glorious afternoon with an excellent playing surface and after the last 2 very disapointing reuslts against lower opposition, Sheringham started in a determined mood to rectify recent results. Matty Barwell made a welcome return and started at centre half with Barker back in the squad. The Shannocks started well and yet again keeper Frazer hardly touched the ball in the opening 20 minutes such was the possession play but as in recent games Sheringham just couldn't find that elusive ball to the forward to open up the account. Although Murphy, Nichols and Knowles went close. Norwich Union were making life difficult with 9-10 men behind the ball the entire first half and the period ended 0-0. A change in formation by Manager Kowalyk seemed to do the trick with Gleave paired centrally with Nichols and Jordan opened up the floodgates from a Gleave cross. Some very slick football was then seen with Nichols getting a brace, Tanti and finally Barker with the goal of the game a superb lob into the top right hand corner of the goal. Frazer when called upon looked secure to keep a clean sheet and all 14 players performed exceptionally well throughout the game to keep the 3rd spot placing alive.

  • Unsatisfactory draw at St Andrews Sun/19/03/06

With Willie Frazer back between the sticks all but Barwell, Spruce , Christie and Barker were missing. Barwell retuning next week. After last weeks dissmal display the Shannocks attempted to get back on track and secure the 3rd spot but came up against a very determined St Andrews who themselves are battling to avoid a bottom 2 finish. The previous game in December was abandonded in the 59th minute to to snow and were leading at tyhat point 4-0 and about to take a penalty so the lads knew of the importance of 3 points. However it wasn't until the 31th minute that Steve Jordan popped up and headed the Shannocks into the lead from a header. Up to that point Willie Frazer had hardly touched the ball such was the Shannocks domination but as in the previous week possession wasn't turned into goals and the lead was only held on for about 5 minutes when St Andrews equalised from a free kick. The second half St Andrews came more into the game and Frazer made 2 good saves to keep Sheringham in it. A draw looked on the cards but with 4 mutes to go David Harwood at centre back came out of defense and beat 4 players and with the last defender bringing him down just outside the box the St Andrews player was shown the red card. The free kick or the man advantage in the dying minutes wasn't used and a point was gained to keep in 3rd spot.

  • Humiliating display earns a 5-2 loss Sun/12/03/06

Without Frazer, Harwood, Christie and Barker the Shannocks still went in to this game expecting a result but were warned prior to KO by Manager Kowalyk not to take their opponents to lightly. Starting of at a good pace Sheringham for the first 25 minutes kept keep me ball but without any real threat but did score from a Knowles corner deep at the far post on 14 minutes where Nichols grabbed his 27th of the season. Sheringham then allowed Mann to score an equaliser from a needless free kick which was given away on the by line. The Attleborough forward heading in unmarked. Then just before half time a deep Attleborough corner was banged in and went in with a 2-1 lead. Sheringham were still confidant of getting back into the game but kamakazee defending allowed a 3rd, 4th and 5th before Gleave scored our 2nd. The team caved in all over the pitch and must seriously look at their performance. This result effectively ended any remote chance of finishing in the top 3. Credit to Attleborough who battled their way and kept faith after taking the lead. "Against top sides we raise our game but have a big problem mentally against the so called struggling sides. The only team to have beaten us in the top 7 are Blofield but have lost needless points to Beccles, Sprowston and now Attleborough. With that pathetic display we can now only play for 4th slot and that situation can be placed firmly at the feet of the players who turned out today" commented Kowalyk.

  • Winning streak continues Sat/04/03/06

Another good win against a struggling Watton saw them edge level on points with neighbours Cromer. Kowalyk, Barker, Nichols and Dickerson returned back at Watton having previously represented them in their Jewson days. Without Barwell who for the forseeable future will not be avaiable from University, Harwood (work committments), Spruce (suspended) and Spauls (injured) Sheringham went into this last third of the season looking to start an unbeaten run targeted by Manager Kowalyk. If this is achieved then the Shannocks will be there and there abouts come end of season. A great start on 8 minutes saw Darren Nichols head home his 26th of the season from an excellent Gleave cross and then went further ahead just before half time with the goal of the game. A slick 8 man move finished superbly off by Coach Karl Dickerson who lobbed the keeper with a shot-chip. A half time ticking off saw Sheringham come out in a determined mood and Craig Knowles finished off the scoring with 2 goals. His best a header at the far post via a Gleave's pin point pass from the far side touch line. The only negative of the afternoon was slack marking allowing Watton a consolation goal and the positives were the points and Willie Frazer superbly figertipping a almost certain goal out of the top corner and round the post. News filtered through that Cromer had drawn 1-1 with NU and that put Sheringham equal on points although Cromer having 2 games in hand.

  • Sheringham break Brandons home record Sun/02/02/06

Sheringham went to a difficult Brandon without Spruce, Hawkins and Barwell. The opening play saw sheringham dominate and Gleaves cross found Knowles who made no mistake on 11 minutes. The Shannocks then should have increased the scoreline by at least another 3-4 with the chances created and the sucker punch came in the 44th minute when a ball out of defence went to a home player and in the cross a Brandon player got a touch to level the scores. Brandon came out in a determined mood but a penalty awarded against a foul on Nichols saw him score his 25th of the season. Brandon then had a 15 minute purple patch and some stout defending by Sheringham saw an outstanding individual goal from skipper Gleave. He picked up the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box and with about 5 Brandon players round him danced his way through and his shot went in from the underside of the bar to finish off an excellent victory against a very good Brandon side.

  • 1-5 victory takes us to 4th spot Sat/11/02/06

A jeckl & hyde performance saw a Scintillating second half display destroy a battling Gorleston side. Barker returned to the squad after a 5 week absence. With the scores at half time 1-1 it took a stern team talk to awake the footballing ability out of the Sheringham players second half. Goals from Nichols (2), Gleave (2) and Adams took the 3 points and with it a climb of 1 place into 4th slot. Manager Kowalyk commented "gorleston battled in the first half and didn't allow us room to play but after our little chat at half time the lads showed a determination with probably some of the best football of the season."

  • Barker makes a welcome return plus a fit 4 Sat/11/02/06

Stuart Barker returns after missing the last 6 games through work and holiday committments. Also Physio John Covell has worked wonders getting the quartet of Knowles, Harwood, Nichols and skipper Gleave ready and fit for today's game at Gorleston Reserves. A free week next Saturday will also help the walking wounded ready for the 26th at Brandon.

  • 10 man Sheringham earn draw Sun/05/02/06

In front of the biggest crowd of the season this long awaited fixture saw these 2 coastal rivals square up for the first time in over 30 years. After late fitness tests saw Nichols, Gleave and Harwood take to the field it was Darren Nichols scoring a late equaliser that earned 10 man Sheringham a well derserved draw. The Shannocks got a dream start when skipper Gleave lost his marker, Winterbone, and his drilled cross was met at the near post by Nichols.  Sheringham then dominated for the first 15 minutes before on 25 minutes Thompson scoring after good work from Timms down the right. The half time score of 1-1 was ripe for the second period until the 61st minute when Sheringham's keeper Frazer, was sent off for handling outside his area. Cromer took advantage of the man and applied pressure and got in their noses in front when Thompson got his second beating stand in keeper Harwood with a low drive. Sheringham then saw a flurry of substitutes and with a never say die attitude got their just rewards when again Gleave's drilled ball was fumbled by Osbourne and the loose ball found Nichols unmarked and he cooly slotted home to earn the draw. A great game played in great spirit and again it shows that the Shannocks can compete with the big boys. The return fixture is greatly anticipated.

  • Almost full squad for Cromer derby Sat/04/02/06

Manager Kowalyk almost has a full squad apart from Spauls, Christie and Barwell for the Cromer tangle this saturday. Nichols, Gleave and Harwood have responded to Physio Covell's treatment this week.

  • Depleted side scape a 0-1 win at Wroxham Sat/28/01/06

A side missing leading scorers Nichols and skipper Gleave, Barker, Murphy, Christie, Barwell and Spauls scapped through courtesy of David Harwood goal just before half time. A very young Wroxham Reserves deserve a lot of credit as their football and determination never waivered throughout. Admittedly key players were missing but Sheringham looked like a team full of strangers. "It was that bad, commented Manager Kowalyk, that even I was named as 2nd sub. We hope to have Murphy, Barwell, Barker, Gleave and Nichols back next week for the derby game against Cromer."

  • Convincing win after a string of poor results Sat/24/01/06

After a successesion of poor results the Shannocks got back to winning ways with this convincing 5-1 win against local rivals North Walsham. It was particularly pleasing for ex Angel Manager, John Kowalyk who's team has now done the double over Walsham. Ex Walsham player, Harwood had an exceptional game finishing with a hattrick and man of the match award. The win was acheived without skipper Gleave, Barker, Christie, Barwell and Spauls. This week we travel to Wroxham Reserves where a win is required to keep up the challenge of a top 3 finish.

  • Defender goes AWOL Saturday/14/01/06

The expected transfer of defender Matty Atkins from Sprowston Wanderers hit a snag whith his nonarrival at Training. After discussions with Manager Kowalyk the completion of his transfer was due for Tuesday but since then he has not answered his phone, messages or emails. ""Its a pity cause the lad has bags of quality and we thought he was looking forward to the challenge of Premier football" commented Kowalyk. Saturday's big game against Blofield will see Christie, Barwell, Bailes and Barker miss through holiday or work committments.

  • Quality defender is close to transferring Tuesday/09/01/06

This Saturday's game against league leaders Blofield could see a new defender lining up. The transfer of an undisclosed centre half should be completed before the deadline. Also Manager Kowalyk may also have another quality player interested in coming to Sheringham. Details will be released within the week.

  • Decision to send keeper Frazer off kills tie Saturday/01/06

Sheringhams dream of a semi final spot in this years Norfolk Senior Cup ended in the 19th minute when a strange decision by the Official saw keeper Frazer sent off. A aerial ball saved and in the arms of Frazer saw Derehams skipper Challen challenge and with the resulting action produced a red card to the amazement of the large crowd. Harwood deputised in goal and couldn't stop the resulting spot kick. With this, the cup tie ceased to be an even spectacle and Dereham went on to finish the game 0-5. The official definately stamped his authority on the game booking an amazing 6 players in the first 10 minutes. With the score 0-4 at half time the Shannocks came out to impress and produced a very satisfactory 45 minutes and with it claimed a bit of pride back. Manager Kowalyk commented "I have to be careful what I say but one wonders what the game is all about when 6 players and 1 sent off is witnessed in the first 20 minutes. All the preperation at the club by the players and committee for this tie went up in smoke after the sending off and spoilt the day for us all including the spectators. We will now end up without Willie for 5 weeks but we will appeal and luckily a press photographer was on hand and snapped the incident, proving no intent on Frazer's behalf. Up till that moment we held our own with Dereham having 1 shot on goal. After that it was uphill all the way to reduce a cricket score line. I am extremely happy with the players attitude considering it was one way traffic and we must now take heart and show what we are all about next week against leaders Blofield."

  • Manager Kowalyk misquoted Thursday/05/01/06

The local newspaper have slightly misquoted Manager Kowalyk and he would like to straighten out one of the quotes  "What I actually was implying was that Dereham have some quality players and some lesser that we think we can exploit. In no way did I mention ordinary. Far from it I've watched Dereham and we will have to be at our very best to beat them on Saturday. I wouldn't want this situation to be taken out of context."

  • Christie & Murphy return Wednesday/04/01/06

Ollie Christie & Simon Murphy return this weekend for the Shannocks important quarter final Norfolk Senior Cup game against Dereham Town from the Ridgeons Premier. The odds are stacked against a Sheringham win with the bookies and cup favourite opponents confidant of being in the hat for the next round. Craig Knowles is cup tied previously playing for Fakenham. On the injury front Paul Spruce resumed training last night and should be available in a couple of weeks time. Manager Kowalyk is looking to strengthen the squad and a 7 day notice is going out this week.

  • Shannocks drop another 2 points Saturday/31/12/05

The Shannocks dropped another 2 points against bogey side Sprowston Athletic but just about earned a point with Nichols scoring in the 84th minute. After falling behind through Tuttle, debut boy Matty Barwell headed in the equaliser from a Knowles corner. A penalty was awarded to Sheringham in the 38th minute but the Officials decided between them to change the decision. The visitors scored 10 minutes into the second half via Potter and it was all Sheringham in the final 20 minutes but just couldn't get that important goal. After sustained pressure Darren Nichols made sure. Hawkins and Nichols had good chances in the dying seconds to take all 3 points but Sheringham will just have to be pleased with a point. Dereham Town Management came to see their next weeks opponents in the Senior Cup and I am sure would not have been very impressed with the Shannocks overall play.

  • 6 missing as derby game is snowed off Thursday/29/12/05

The long awaited derby game at Cromer was cancelled due to snow and Manager Kowalyk although looking forward to the game was pleased as Spruce, Spauls, Christie, Murphy, Barker and Tanti were unavailable.
